Tolerable Package Size and Weight
Capacity limits of aircraft and vehicles restrict the size of packages that can be accommodated.
As most of our packages will go on our automated conveyor belt system, it is our recommendation that each package does not exceed 35 kilograms in weight and 1 metre in any one dimension. This is the internationally accepted norm for man-handable packages and should assist in ensuring that packages reach their destination intact.
If your package exceeds the recommended weight and dimensions, collection arrangements must be made at least two hours prior to the collection time. A surcharge may be levied for freight of this nature.
Packaging of Fragile Goods
Our clients are advised to avoid sending packages containing fragile or valuable goods. Should you do so you are obliged to pack and label the package accordingly to minimise the risk of damage. In terms of our Contract for Carriage, UTi Distribution is indemnified against any loss or damage (including consequential damages) arising out of the carriage of fragile goods.
UTi Distribution does take every measure to ensure the safety of fragile goods. However, the responsibility for adequate packaging rests with the client. Clients are advised to clearly label fragile freight, preferably with a fragile sticker, at point of dispatch. This will alert our staff to the fragile nature of the goods, who will then handle it accordingly. We recommend you make use of foam padding to cushion contents from any impact that may be caused through handling and transport. Never pack brittle articles together e.g. glass against glass. Please help us to help you by packaging fragile goods correctly.
Addresses and Label
Please ensure that every package has a clear and full physical address on it. Do not forget to include the destination town or city and postcode, as many cities have similar named suburbs.
Every package must display a UTi tracking sticker, and we suggest you record the tracking numbers on your dispatch document for your reference.
