Economic Empowerment and Transformation

The UTi Group is committed to the concept and process of empowerment in the South African economic environment, with the core belief that it has a strategic role to play as a South African business. 

UTi has always been committed to the education and capacity building of not only its employees but also all communities in South Africa.  Most of the Group’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment initiatives are designed to further this aim.  This approach is based on the belief that investment in education leads to holistic and sustainable empowerment.

UTi is a Level 3 Broad-Based BEE Contributor as well as a Value-Adding Enterprise and Enterprise Development Beneficiary.  This allows us to assist clients who procure from us in two areas of their own BBBEE Scorecards – Procurement and Enterprise Development Pillars.

UTi South Africa has a 25.01% black ownership component. 25% of the black shareholding is owned by an Education Trust, i.e. the UTi Empowerment Trust (UET). This Trust was formed in 2004 and soon thereafter acquired its shareholding in UTi South Africa.

The purpose of the UET is to finance the tertiary education of South African citizens who are Black as defined in the BBBEE Act as beneficiaries from within the employee base of the UTi Group, and to support the tertiary education of dependants of beneficiaries.
